The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally – August 5th – 14th
Motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world converge on this South Dakota city for 10 days each August to celebrate the art, love, and passion of motorcycles. The rally features a wide variety of events including motorcycle rides, live concerts, countless vendors, and more. This small city with a population of 6,500 explodes to host over 700,000 bikers from not just the entirety of the United States, but also the world.
History of Sturgis
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally began in 1938 as Clarence “Pappy” Hoel, the recent owner of an Indian Motorcycle franchise, hosted the Sturgis Rally, a small motorcycle race with only nine participants and a crowd of fewer than 200 people. The event grew from a simple award ceremony that lasted a few hours to a full-scale multi-day event by 1965. From there, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally grew as it attracted more bikers and the city of Sturgis continued to build on the bike rally by offering events, vendors, and live music.
Sturgis 2022
This year is slated to be the biggest year yet in terms of attendees and events. After a small dip in attendance the past two years, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is back in full swing. Aside from a massive gathering of motorcycle-lovers, there are lots of events that will keep you busy for the entirety of the event.
Motorcycle Rides
During Sturgis 2022, riders are invited to enjoy celebratory and themed motorcycle rides. To kick off the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, join the Police Chief’s Ride where 100% of the proceeds will go to a local charity. Join the special Mayor’s ride where the mayor will lead you through the Black Mountains for an incredible tour with all proceeds going toward emergency services. Later in the week, Ride with a Local and tour the area only like a local knows or ride on one of the many mapped out routes throughout the area.
Live Music
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has some of the best live music in the area from national artists to local bands. This year hosts such artists as Snoop Dog, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Buckcherry, Rob Zombie, and many more spanning over the course of the 10-day event.
